the sound of speed

The Sound of Speed is Thompson's 1960 concept LP. Recorded at the dawn of the space age, each composition evokes a different mode of modern transport, from Vespa scooters to Le Mans racers to rocket ships. The vehicular vignettes are book-ended by authentic sound effects, with vivid stereo motion--for example, the classic Starfire and its famous blast off sound.

Starfire

"Starfire and Early-Bird Whirly-Bird from The Sound of Speed are among the classic 'music-on-the-move' titles that would include Henri Rene's Rollercoaster and David Rose's Holiday For Strings."
