Bob on iTunes

on the rocksProbably the most notorious cheesecake cover ever created. This image gets attention in the album's liner notes (see below). Little Black Box is particularly jazzy and sophisticated, while On the Rocks might serve as the theme song for the Cocktail Nation.

"About the picture on the cover ... Stimulating, isn't it?" crow the liner notes, "That obviously cool chick (ice cubes or no) pointedly portrays the true essence of this album." On the Rocks (LPS-2145) was recorded Oct.-Nov 1959.

Tracks: There's a Small Hotel, June is Bustin' out all Over, Happy Talk, Breezin' along with the Breeze, Just You Just Me, Almost Like Being in Love, On the Rocks, Jersey Bounce, I'll See You Again, Always, All the Things You Are.

There was bound to come a time when the cocktail glass tintinnabulations of Bob Thompson would become fashionable again. That day has arrived.
—Liner Notes: History of Space Age Pop
Bob Thompson's recordings are crafted with skill and expertise, humor and sensitivity. Their dynamic range is most impressive and their varied moods show a man of refined taste and abilities. I join in saluting this overlooked genius of American Pop Music.
